We are excited to present our latest initiatives and projects aimed at keeping you informed and involved in the dynamic world of pharmacy in the African region. From community outreach programs to research endeavors pushing the boundaries of pharmaceutical science, discover how IPSF AfRO is spearheading transformative projects that are shaping the future of pharmacy education, practice, and healthcare delivery in the African region.
1. AMATA WEEK

African Medicines Agency Treaty Alliance (AMATA) week is a big advocacy project that was started off in 2023 between the IPSF - African Regional Office in collaboration with the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office with the aim to introduce AMA to its members and build capacity about AMA among pharmacy students in the region while involving students and early career pharmacy professionals in the advocacy efforts to operationalize AMA. The project involved promotional content and launch of a completion of members to plan, implement and evaluate an advocacy project in their country in line with AMA’s vision of equitable access to quality, safe, efficacious medicines and technologies for a healthy Africa.
2. RESEARCH-A-THON

The Research-a-thon first edition was first launched in 2024. It aimed to address the gap in research among the youth in the health profession. It involved workshops, collaboration, and mentorship. It is a transformative project designed to equip pharmacy students and young pharmacists with the fundamental knowledge, tools, and resources on research writing in the sciences. The second edition is currently ongoing in 2026.
3. AFROLYMPICS

The AfROlympics is the largest project in IPSF AfRO. It is an event organised by IPSF-AfRO consisting of a wide range of interesting Professional Development events such; CE, CSE, ISE, PCE and PPAC which are undertaken during a set period of time or competition timelines. The main aim of the AfROlympics is to provide an opportunity for the member organisations in IPSF-AfRO to engage, deepen and develop their knowledge on Professional Development skills, and most importantly, to encourage effective communication and teamwork. The first edition was launched in 2022. This year (2026) will be the 5th edition of this impactful project.
4. WORLD AIDS DAY
The World Aids Day Awareness Campaign is organized by members of IPSF AfRO (International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation African Regional Office) every year and this event aims to raise awareness and emphasize the crucial role of pharmacists in public health, particularly in HIV/AIDS management. The event will mobilize a variety of stakeholders, including pharmacists, pharmacy students, health professionals, and associations. Publicity for the event and the call for participation will take place from November 18th to December 1st, encouraging broad community involvement. Throughout this period, informational campaigns will be conducted on social media and through IPSF channels to engage the public, enhance awareness, and maximize outreach. The Awareness Campaign aims to not only provide information but also strengthen the role of pharmacists in public health advocacy. By educating patients, advocating for treatment access, and promoting preventative measures, this event will serve as a key moment in the fight against HIV/AIDS across Africa.
5. AFRICAN YOUTH AMR FORUM

The African Youth AMR Forum is a dynamic and engaging event designed to equip African youths with the necessary knowledge, tools, and resources on AMR for them to take action in their respective communities and countries. It is a 3-day virtual event during the WAAW involving webinars, workshops, panel discussions, presentations and data hackathon. The first edition was first launched in 2023 which served as a great platform for the youth across Africa to engage, network and contribute towards the fight against AMR. The forum aims to engage high level stakeholders to bring direction to our goals and initiate plans to build our calls to action as well as promote multidisciplinary collaboration. This forum aims to empower and educate young individuals, sharing best practices and actions, and the exchange of experiences, insights, and recommendations.
